Serving the church, the community and the world

As you begin to feel a part of St John’s, and get a sense of where God might be calling you, we would love to invite  you to serve as part of a team. First up on this page we have a list of ministry areas that need your help in church. Please read through the opportunities on this page and get in touch!

Welcome & Stewards

Welcome
At St. John’s we extend a warm welcome to visitors who are new to the idea of church, new to St. John’s, new to the area or who know us well! We are looking for new team members to grow our welcome ministry. Could you help welcome newcomers, visitors and regulars to any of our Sunday services? A big smile and an ability to chat with strangers are the only requirements … we welcome families, couples and individuals who would be willing to serve once a month.

Stewards
Could you help with preparing the church for either the 9:00am or the 10:45am service, handing out service sheets and hymn books, counting attendance and collection, tidying up after the service and so on? This could either be on a regular Sunday in the month or on an ad-hoc basis to fill in for those on a regular rota who are unable to do a particular Sunday.

Sunday coffee & tea
Help wake up St Johns on a Sunday morning! Serving tea and coffee between and after the Sunday services is a vital welcoming and hospitality ministry. It’s also a great way to meet many other church members and visitors. The main requirement is a friendly face and a positive attitude. Volunteers (particularly from the 10:30 service) are always welcome to help setup, serve drinks and tidy up before or after your normal service on a monthly rota.

Facilities and Coffee Shop

Grounds & Maintenance
Do you have DIY and decorating skills? Do you enjoy wielding power tools? Or do you like to spend time working in the garden? If so, could you keep a check on the general state of the church and centre buildings and grounds, as they require constant low-level updating, repairs and miscellaneous DIY and maintenance. If you have such practical skills and talents, and you are able to volunteer on an ad hoc basis, it would be great to hear from you.

Cleaning
We have a beautiful, refurbished church building, but have you ever wondered how it looks so pristine every Sunday morning? There is a team of faithful willing volunteers who spend some time, usually on a Friday morning, making sure that the building is clean and tidy ready for Sunday morning worship, and they would love to hear from you if you would like to join them, either on a regular or on an occasional basis.

Kitchen and Kitchenette
Could you help the St John’s Church Centre volunteer team by assisting in the running of the main kitchen and Hall 3 kitchenette? Duties would include assisting in food preparation, cooking, service and clearance at events such as our regualar Community Lunches.  Full training will be provided (including L2 Hygiene where necessary).

Hosting
Do you enjoy meeting new people, and helping them make the best use of the church and centre buildings? We are in need of a list of people who are willing to act as occasional weekend building hosts when external groups are using the church and centre facilities. Duties include opening the building, showing our guests how to use the various facilities that they need, possible trouble shooting on the day and locking up afterwards.

Coffee Shop…
The Coffee Shop is a very important part of St John’s, welcoming everyone on a daily basis into the Church Centre. Many people from the wider community enjoy the friendly atmosphere that the coffee shop offers. We would be so pleased to welcome new members onto our team. Full training will be given, so give us a go! There are many different roles available, and you also arrange to spend shifts working with friends.

Worship and AV

We are looking to expand the worship team so that we can resource sung worship and the running of services in both the traditional and contemporary gatherings, as well as for children’s groups, courses and conferences. We are looking for musicians, sound engineers and visual operators. The requirements are simple… love God, love St John’s and love music! It helps to have a good understanding of tech, and a passion for music, but full training and encouragement will be given. This is a wonderfully rewarding area of church life to serve in.

Communications and Content Creation

We are in search of individuals who are deeply enthusiastic about social media, marketing, and content creation for St. John’s Church communications. The process of crafting and promoting our church events is intricate, and who understands our church’s communication needs better than our own community? To facilitate this, we have established a dedicated team known as the ‘Comms Collective.’ This group collaborates to generate content and engage in discussions regarding communication strategies tailored specifically for St. John’s Church.
