Alpha ~ It's not too late to join the next Alpha Course which takes place each Thursday at 7.30pm in St John’s Church Centre. You are warmly invited to join us on the Alpha Course – an opportunity to explore, in an informal setting, fundamental questions such as
- Who is Jesus?
- Why did Jesus die?
- How and why should I pray?
- Who is the Holy Spirit and what does he do?
Whether you never attend church, are new to the church or have been attending church for years, if you would like to discuss these and other questions, then this is the course for you. We will start each evening with a meal together. Please join us and invite your friends. Contact Trudy Rankin via the Church Office to book your place or to find out more.
Women’s World Day of Prayer, Friday 7th March at 10.00am ~ followed by refreshments in the Church Centre. All are welcome to the service at St. John's to celebrate this annual Day of Prayer organised by all the churches in the village. On the same day, women all around the world will be celebrating by using the
words prepared this year by Christian women in Egypt. A crèche will be available by booking in advance with Claire (places limited). Were you inspired by last week's sermon and this week's life group study? The bookstall table in the foyer will have books and resources on Creation Care and the St. John's Green Team will be touting for new members.
Call My Wine Bluff, Saturday 8th March, 7.15 for 7.30pm ~ A very light-hearted evening of wine tasting with a light supper of cheese, pate and bread. The format is simple and requires no knowledge. A panel of three ‘experts’ will describe each wine and then tell you what it is. Your team then has a few minutes to decide who is telling the truth. At this point, of course, your own experience and tasting skill will kick in and you will conclude who is right. Eight wines are tasted in total, and supper is served after the first four. In addition to guessing the correct panellist, you will need to guess the vintage and the retail price. This information is detailed on the score card along with a couple of bogus figures. Essentially it is multiple choice – terribly easy!! Please come along – book as many tickets as you can, tables (teams) are typically eight but guests not in parties of eight will be teamed up easily enough. Tickets are available from the Church office, details on the flier at the back of church.
Lent Appeal in aid of the Sudan Church Association ~ Each Lent, we give out tubes of Smarties and then invite families (after their children have enjoyed the contents) to fill the tubes with 5p, 20p or £1 coins in aid of the Sudan Church Association. This year, the Smarties will be handed out at the services in St John’s on Sunday 2nd March.
Purple PASSION - the musical ~ tells the story of Jesus' last week in Jerusalem from Palm Sunday to His resurrection in a powerful and thought-provoking way: Wednesday 5th - Friday 7th March 7.30pm, Saturday 8th March 3.30pm at the Church on the Heath, tickets £5 – all profits to charity.
Calling all Cooks! ~ Do you have time to make a quiche, salad or cake? If you do, we would love to hear from you. We are holding many church events during the year in our wonderful new Church Centre and are always looking for new cooks to help out with the catering side of things.
Churches Together Lent Course ~ Ian Coster and Arnold Bennett will lead this year’s Churches Together Lent Course. It will start on Thursday 13th March at 10.00am in the Methodist Church and it is anticipated that each study will last an hour, followed by refreshments. Everyone welcome.
